Tehran; Kurdish political prisoners facing Medical Neglect and ongoing Detention in maximum security confinement

May 2, 2025; Reza Ramazanzadeh, a Kurdish political prisoner currently serving a two and a half years sentence at Tehran's central Prison, has been deprived of medical care despite enduring over four months in a segregated unit. He is suffering from severe gastrointestinal and his condition aggravated for being denied access to medical treatment.


According to a reliable source affiliated to Kurdistan Human Rights Association-Geneva, Mr. Ramazanzadeh, who has a history of multiple arrests and imprisonments, faces significant stomach and digestive problems due to previous hunger strikes. Authorities at Tehran's central Prison are reportedly refusing to provide him with necessary medical attention.


Earlier reports from Kurdistan Human Rights Association-Geneva a on December 21, 2024, indicated that this political prisoner was still being held in a maximum security cell without visitation rights or access to a phone. Despite multiple requests.


On November 20, 2024, Reza Ramazanzadeh, a civil and political activist was arrested during the “Jin, Jian, Azadi” movement, and subsequently transferred to Tehran's central Prison to serve his sentence of two years and six months. Reports from Kurdpa state that Mr. Ramazanzadeh was apprehended in front of his home in Tehran, and his current sentence comes from two separate cases against him.


He was initially arrested during the “Jin, Jian, Azadi” movement on October 9, 2022, and subsequently sentenced by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran to one year and six months in prison for “collaboration with foreign adversaries."


Additionally, on April 18, 2024, he was sentenced to one year in prison for the charge of "spreading disinformation information." by Branch 24 of the Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Radmand, This ruling was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Appeals Court.


Mr. Ramazanzadeh had also been arrested previously for participating in the nationwide protests of November 2019 and was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for “national security offenses.”


Mr. Ramadanzadeh has a record of multiple arrests in the years 2013, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In recent years, he has faced detention and criminal charges for publicizing prisoners situations and prison conditions in Tehran's central Prison and Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.


Reza Ramadanzadeh is of Kurdish descent, originally from Khorasan, and currently resides in Tehran. It is important to note that he is facing serious gastrointestinal and stomach illnesses due to his previous hunger strikes while incarcerated.
