On April 26, 2025, Dr. Beyan Salehian, an internal medicine specialist from Saqez and one of the detainees from the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement in Kurdistan was sentenced to five months of punitive imprisonment and a monetary fine of 150 million tomans by the criminal court in Wirmê (Urmia).
According to a reliable source close to “Kurdistan Human Rights Association-Geneva”, Dr. Salehian was convicted on January 2, 2025, in the 111th branch of the Criminal Court in Urmia, presided by Judge Farhad Faraamanesh, on the charge of “publishing disinformation to disrupt public order on social media," resulting in a five months of imprisonment and a fine of 150 million tomans sentence. This ruling was upheld without modification by the appellate court on April 11, 2025.
Although the charges against her also included "propaganda against the regime in favor adversaries," the court issued its verdict solely based on the charge of "publishing disinformation."
Dr. Salehian had previously faced another case at the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, in August 2023, she was sentenced to eight months of imprisonment for "propagating against the regime through the dissemination of content in social media," a sentence that was later changed to a fine of 20 million tomans.
Furthermore, following this case, in 2024, Dr. Salehian was compelled to relocate from Sanandaj to Urmia due to a "rejection of her vetting" related to her employment; however, in Urmia, she encountered further legal challenges.
Beyan Salehian from Saqez, was among the detainees of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement.
