On April 15, 2025, the death sentence of Naser Bakerzadeh, a Kurdish prisoner held in Urmia Central Prison, was overturned during the appeal process by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court.

Amir Raeisian, Mr. Bakerzadeh's attorney, in a post on his social media, stating: "This ruling was communicated to me and my colleagues, Mr. Seyedad Shirzad and Mr. Nihad Irandoost, today. We are awaiting the referral of the case to another branch of the Revolutionary Court in Wirmê (Urumia) for parallel proceedings."

In November 2024, Naser Bakerzadeh, age 25, was sentenced to death by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Wirmê (Urmia) on charges of "espionage for Israel."

The court session addressing Mr. Bakerzadeh's allegations took place on November 2, 2024, during which he was convicted of "espionage for Israel."

Mr. Bakerzadeh was initially arrested by the Iranian intelligence services personnel on August 9, 2023, and was temporarily released after several weeks of interrogation upon signing a pledge.

He was arrested again by Iranian security forces on January 2, 2024, and after several months of interrogation at the IRGC’s intelligence detention center located within the Al-Mahdi Barracks in Urmia, he was transferred to the central prison in Wirmê (Urumia).
