Kurdistan: Kurdish Woman released on Bail after arbitrary detention

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Nazanin Elyasi, from Mahabad, was temporarily released from Wirmê (Urumia) Prison upon the posting of a bail amounting to four billion tomans.


According to reports received by the Kurdistan human rights association in Geneva, Ms. Elyasi was deprived of legal counsel during her period of detention.


This Kurdish woman was transferred to the intelligence detention center in Wirmê (Urumia) for interrogation and subsequently moved to the central prison in Wirmê (Urumia) upon the completion of the interrogation process.


On Monday, December 16, 2024, Ms. Elyasi was arrested following a summons to the intelligence department in Mahabad.


As of the time of this report, no precise information has been obtained regarding the reasons for her arrest and the charges brought against Nazanin Elyasi.
