Kurdistan: Kurdish political prisoner convicted of “propaganda against the regime” in a new allegation by Iranian judiciary

Following the issuance of a court summons and the charge of "propaganda against the regime" in a new allegation initiated against Mohammad Rasoulpour, a political prisoner incarcerated in “Shino” (Oshnaviyeh) prison, was tried today, April 13, 2025, via video conference. He has been sentenced to denial of any parole for 6 months.


Earlier, on April 10, 2025, the Kurdistan Human Rights Association in Geneva reported that Mohammad Rasoulpour, a Kurdish political prisoner from “Shino”(Oshnaviyeh), who has been serving a year and a half sentence for over four months, has been accused in a new allegation of "propaganda against the regime" and is required to appear within five days before Branch One of the Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Shino.


According to an informed source, a notification dated April 8, 2025, issued by Mir Nagi Seyyedrazi, the prosecutor of Branch One of the Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Shino, has informed Mr. Rasoulpour that he must appear at this branch within five days to address the charges brought against him.


Mohammad Rasoulpour has previously submitted several requests to be transferred to open prison status, however, these requests have been denied by the Intelligence Service in Shino.


On November 16, 2024, Rasoulpour was transferred to the central prison in Shino to serve his sentence of one year and six months for charges of "communication and membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties and propaganda activities against the regime."


On the evening of Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Mohammad Rasoulpour, a resident of the village of "Kona Qala (Kohne Qalee)" in Shino (Oshnaviyeh), was arrested by Iranian security forces without a judicial warrant. Subsequently, on July 24, 2024, after 12 days of temporary detention, Rasoulpour was temporarily released on bail of 600 million tomans awaiting his court appearance.


Mr. Rasoulpour was sentenced, to two years imprisonment for the charges of "communication and membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties and propaganda against the regime” by the revolutionary court in Shino (Oshnoviyeh) presided by Judge Ali Ansari. This sentence was later reduced to one year and six months in prison under Article 442 of the penal Code.


Ultimately, on November 16, 2024, Mohammad Rasoulpour was transferred to the Shino central prison to serve his sentence.


Mohammad Rasoulpour, born in 1972, is married and father of three children.
