On May 5, 2025, Mamosta Dr. Salam Mahmoudian, the Friday prayer Imam of the village of "Biwaran Salafi," and Mamosta Hassan Khezri, the Friday prayer imam of the village of "Biwaran Olya," located in the Sardasht county, have each been sentenced by the Special clear Court in Urmia to two years of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 20 million Toman.
According to an informed source, the court hearing addressing the charges against these two Kurdish clerics was held today, May 5, 2025, at the Special clergy Court in Wirmê (Urmia), during which the verdict was communicated to them.
These two Kurdish clerics supported the protesters during the "Jin, Jian, Azadi" (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement and were summoned multiple times to the Special clergy Court in Urmia.
During the protests of 2021, the two Sunni clerics were repeatedly summoned by security agencies in Sardasht for their support of the public, the protesters, the injured, and the families of the victims. After facing threats and pressures, they encountered a fabricated security and judicial case at the clergy Court in Wirmê (Urmia).
Additionally, these two clerics have consistently expressed their objections to the killings of the Kurdish “Kolbars” cross-border porter in Kurdistan.
