Kurdistan/Iran; Kurdish Journalist, Transferred to Prison to Serve his imposed Sentence

On Sunday, May 4 2025, Azdar Piriy Sarmanlou, a journalist and chief editor of the international monthly magazine called "national studies," was transferred to Karaj Central Prison to serve a one year prison sentence.
According to an informed source, this Kurdish journalist, originally from Chaldaran and residing in Karaj, was summoned to department of corrections of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj to begin serving his prison sentence.
Azdar Piriy Sarmanlou was arrested at his home by Iranian security forces on October 22, 2024, without arrest warrant and subsequently transferred to the intelligence detention center in Karaj.
This journalist was interrogated for 21 days in the detention facility of the intelligence services and was moved to Karaj Central Prison upon the completion of the interrogation process.
Mr. Piriy was temporarily released from prison on November 15, 2024, after posting bail.
The court hearing addressing the allegations against this journalist took place in January 2025 in Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj, where he was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for "propaganda against the regime" along with a conditional sentence of two years' probation from engaging in social media.
