Kurdistan/Iran; 33 years old Kurdish female civilian taken into custody to begin imprisonment

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, Befrin Maroufi, a Kurdish civilian from Bokan, was incarcerated to the women’s ward of the Central Prison in Urmia to serve her prison sentence.


According to a reliable source, Ms. Maroufi was sentenced to four months and seven days of imprisonment on charges of “connection with a Kurdish opposition party” by the second chamber of Branch 101 of the Criminal Court in Bokan.


Previously, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, she was temporarily released from the women’s ward of Urmia Central Prison after posting bail.


Following her arrest and the completion of the interrogation process, Maroufi had been transferred to Urmia Central Prison.


On Thursday, January 30, 2025, Iranian security forces arrested Ms. Maaroufi at her residence without presenting a judicial warrant.
