On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Mohammad Daniyali, a Kurdish political prisoner in Ilam central prison, began a hunger strike to protest his deteriorating mental health and the inhuman and unjust conditions of his incarceration.

According to a reliable source speaking to Kurdistan Human Rights Association-Geneva, Mohammad Daniyali, a 24 years old Kurdish political prisoner from Abdanan and a member of the "Benar Abdanan" mountaineering group, initiated the hunger strike today in response to the conditions of his imprisonment and the serious decline in his psychological state. He had previously staged two hunger strikes during his interrogation and arbitrary detention.

On Saturday, March 16, 2025, Mohammad Daniyali, a cultural and social activist and member of the "Benar" hiking group in Abdanan, was transferred to the Central Prison of Ilam to serve a two years sentence of imprisonment following a conviction for "ploy and colluding against national security" and "committing a public offense," with consideration given to his time previously spent in detention.

Mohammad Daniyali was arrested by Iranian security forces in the city of Dehloran on May 13, 2023, and was temporarily released from the Central Prison of Ilam after 60 days in custody upon posting a bail of five billion tomans.

During his initial detention, Mr. Daniyali staged two hunger strikes due to humiliating treatment by security personnel, including shaving his head, disrespect, uncertainty around his custodial status, deprived of access to legal counsel and the right to visit with his family.

Mr. Daniyali's recent hunger strike has increased concerns regarding his physical and psychological well-being. The denial of access to fair trial procedures, inhumane treatment of detainees, and restrictions on communication with family members and defense attorneys represent recurrent human rights violations within the judicial processes of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
