On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the 9th Chamber of the Supreme Court of Iran confirmed the death sentence of Hamid Hossein-Najad Heyderanlu, a Kurdish political prisoner from the village of "Segrik" in Chaldoran.

According to a source familiar with the situation, the ruling was officially communicated to Mr. Hossein-Najad Heyderanlu at Urmia Central Prison on March 26, 2025.

As reported by the Kurdistan Human Rights Association in Geneva, Hamid Hossein-Nejad Heyderanlu was sentenced to death by the 1st Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia, presided by Chief Judge Najafzadeh, on charges of "ba

ghi" (rebellion) due to his alleged membership in the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The sentence was issued in late July 2024.

In August 2024, Mr. Hossein-Nejad Heyderanlu appealed the decision of the lower court, and his case was referred for review to the 9th Chamber of the Supreme Court.

Mr. Hossein-Nejad Heyderanlu was arrested on April 13, 2023, at the Chaldoran border by Iranian border guards and subsequently transferred to the Intelligence detention center in Urmia after several hours of interrogation at the border detention facility.

He reportedly endured severe psychological and physical torture during his 11 months and 10 days in custody at the Intelligence agency in Urmia, where he was coerced into making forced confessions regarding his participation in armed confrontations between PKK forces and border guards. He was compelled to sign documents prepared in advance by the interrogators.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Mr. Hamid Hossein-Najad Heyderanlu was deprived of access to a legal counsel and his requests to an attorney were denied by the Ministry of Intelligence, and the court dismissed his defense arguments and evidence. During the trial, he denied all charges against him, asserting that he was traveling to Turkey with his family on the day of the alleged confrontation between border guards and PKK forces.
