ARBITRARY DETENTIONS OF FOUR MEMBERS OF NAWJIN SOCIO-CULTURAL ASSOCIATION

KMMK-G calls for UN Urgent Action


Ms. Waran MOHAMMADINEJAD member of Nawjin Socio-Cultural Association

Ms. Waran MOHAMMADINEJAD member of Nawjin Socio-cultural Association, Sanandaj branch, in charge of Childern affairs of the association and a researcher in Yazd Arts University, was arrested on 10th October 2022 by regime security forces while on the way to Kurdistan University in Sanandaj. She was taken to unknown place. On 15th October 2022, Ms Waran, in protest of il-treatment of the prison interrogators, she started a hunger strike. On 17th of October, 30 members of her relatives (brothers, sisters, husband) who went before the Sanandaj Court to ask for information, were, all held in detentions for 24 hours. Ms. Waran after 19 days of detention in a solitary confinement detention of IRCG, was freed by paying a huge bail of one milliard Tomans.

Edris Minbary, one of the co-founders and member of steering committee of Nawjin Socio-Cultural Association, teacher of Kurdish language was arrested by the regime security forces and taken to an unknown location on 11th of December 2022. The security forces attacked the house of Mr. Minbary and confiscated his laptop and personal affairs. Mr. Minbary is currently held in a temporarily bases. As he refused to answer the questions of the interrogators in Farsi and speaking only in Kurdish, hi detentions are prolonged.


Ms. Soma Pourmohammadi member of Nawjin Socio-Cultural Association and teacher of Kurdish language


Ms. Soma Pourmohammadi wife of Mr. Edris Minbary, member of Nawjin SocioCultural Association and teacher of Kurdish language who went to seek information about his husband, was arrested and detained by Sanadaj Correctional Prison on 18th of January 2023. Then, he was transferred to IRGC detention facility for interrogation and returned back to Sanadaj Correctional Prison.


Mr. Siwan Ebrahimi husband of Mrs. Zara Mohammadi, member of steering committee of Nawjin Socio-Cultural Association and teacher of Kurdish language


Mr. Siwan Ebrahimi husband of Mrs. Zara Mohammadi, member of steering committee of Nawjin Socio-Cultural Association and teacher of Kurdish language was arrested by the regime security forces on 18th of January 2023. He was arrested while he was paying a visit to her wife Mrs. Zara MOAMMADI in Sanadaj Correctional Prison. He was also arrested and detained for three days on the 4th of January while he was delivering a doctor medical certificate requesting to the Sanandaj Court.

The IRGC Itela’at or Intelligence service is responsible for the illegal detention of the members of Nawjin Socio-Cultural Association.

Health situation of Mrs. Zara Mohammadi

Ms Zara is currently serving a five years sentence in Sanadaj Correctional Prison. Zara is suffering since her childhood from a Lazy bowel syndrome, also known as slow transit constipation (STC). She needs special food diet and health care and the prison condition and lack of access to medical care is worsening her health conditions. Her doctors warned that the sickness could transform to a cancer in prison if she is not treated properly. Ms. Zara’s family is deeply concerned by the development of her health conditions. Her STC conditions is worsening and the family submitted a medical care permission allowance to access doctors outside prison. While the demand was accepted by the judge but the IRCG Intelligence services turned down and refused the request. In addition, Ms. Zara is also suffering from stomach diseases.

Zara Mohammadi is among the BBC's 100 women of 2022.

Zara was selected as one of the 2022 list of 100 influential and inspiring women in the world. She is don dedicate more than a decade to teach the Kurdish language for her hometown and now is in prison.

Zara Award for Kurdish Language

Kurdish foundation for languages in Erbil composed of Kurdish languages institutions from all Kurdistan parts (Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey) has created the “Zara Award for Kurdish Language” and its 2022 award was dedicated to “Vajin Cultural Association in Mariwan on 8th of January 2022. The 8th January is the date Zara Mohammadi was imprisoned. The award is dedicated to cultural and linguistic activists and institutions.
